I finished unpacking our new house just in time to get all of the boxes of Christmas decor out and displayed.....so overwhelming...but sooo worth it!

...garland made from vintage quilting squares makes me sooo happy!

VINTAGE BULBS!!...used to be able to find a box-full for a $1---now pretty pricey with the increasing "vintage Christmas" trends.....

Hi Friends---I'm Back!

Sorry friends that it's been so long since I last posted. A couple of months ago my hubs and I decided to move....yes again!!!! I finally found my "old home" . The house is a 1910 Brick Colonial that possesses the charm and character that I have been yearning for since we moved to Salina. (I have only owned old homes until this last one----- 2 Victorian and a Arts and Crafts Style Bungalow) As you know moving is AWFUL----I never wanna do it again! Thank God I am finally on the downhill slide of the move....with most everything in place except for my art studio which I am tackling this weekend. Trying to get everything done by Thanksgiving. I also just went through my first attempt of IVF (in vitro fertilization). A couple weeks of injections and non-stop Dr. visits and now the long wait to find out if I am pregnant! We are super excited for baby Smith but nervous all in the same breath....please keep us in your prayers!! I am also busy preparing for the holiday season at Studio B. by making prints of my artwork, greeting cards, coasters, and magnets to sell as gifts. I am uploading a couple pieces I finished before all of the chaos hit. ...leave a post...I would love to hear your feedback!

Grandma's Paper Dolls

These pieces were created for my best friend who lost her grandma a few months ago to a terrible battle with cancer. Her grandma had an amazing collection of paper dolls from the 30's, 40's, and 50's that she had played with as a child. My friend wanted to preserve her grandma's collection in four pieces of artwork ----one for each great-granddaughter. As a collector of paper dolls myself, I was eager to get started on these fabulous collages. Fabric---some old, some new make for a lovely back-drop for these mixed media pieces. Vintage sewing notions (spools, buttons, thimbles) are placed strategically through-out the dolls and there clothing while old Ric-rac, found at a recent stop at a thrift store, is used as a border. Tiny clothes-hangers created out of wire also decorate the art-work. Distressed and stained, vintage sewing patterns adorn the profiles of the four-some. Wire that curly-cues at the ends and tea-dyed antique lace were used to create the hanger. A sprinkle of love and a handful of honor towards Grandma Mary were used as the binding agents (glue) to complete the pieces.

Created for my series called "Dollies by-the-Yard" these "Wizard of Oz" inspired dollies are each framed with vintage Kansas yardsticks. The mixed-media foursome are also adorned with vintage Kansas road maps, vintage ephemera, decorative papers, acrylic paints, oil paint sticks, graphite, a little bit of whimsy and a lot of love!

About the "Dollhouse Diaries"

These pieces are dedicated to my grandma who never threw a single thing away!! She believed that every button, piece of fabric, playing card, toy, etc. was a special piece of nastagia too important to be discarded!! When she passed away I not only inherited her special little pieces of history but also her uncontrollable urge to hang-on to everything and never let it go! Needless-to-say each collage adorns vintage items from the past that I have collected throughout my life from grandma, flea markets, thrift stores, garage sales, antique stores, etc. These vintage items combined with my obsession and love for dolls, fabric, and nursery rhymes are the ingredients to my beloved series called "The Dollhouse Diaries".
